Today we went to the North Charleston Fire Museum. Timothy had been there before with BB but this was the first visit for the rest of us. It was a lot of fun and we learned so much about fire safety.
This week was very emotional for Charleston and its citizens (the country and world, for that matter). The fire at the Sofa Super Store claimed the lives of 9 firefighters. We did not know any of them personally but I think that was our loss. They were extraordinary men. I dropped the kids off at camp on Friday and went to Savannah Highway to watch the procession of fire trucks. At 8:30am, I missed maybe half of it but still managed to see about 100 fire trucks and emergency vehicles. It was a very touching tribute. Six of the nine men were from a fire station in our area and would be the guys to respond if our neighborhood had an emergency. Just driving here in West Ashley the last few days, we witnessed 3 funeral processions for the firemen. It is about the only time I didn't mind sitting in traffic in 90+ degree heat. I felt honored to be there.
They will never be forgotten.
